Ignorance and the Masses

Prejudice: To pre-judge someone based on differences. To me, prejudice is synonymous with ignorance. Hitler wanted an Aryan race. Countries all around the world at one time or another promoted slavery. Segregation. The idea that having more money than someone makes one better or worth more as a human, that their opinion matters more. Old people shouldn't drive. Young people shouldn't drive. Members of the LGBT community thinking Christians are all bigots. Christians thinking LGBT are sinners and belong in hell. WHEN WILL IT END? sadly never.

Our society as a whole just can't be bothered to care. There are many people who donate, give to charities, volunteer, adopt, and help in many other ways. There are those across the world who open their hearts and their homes to others in need. So what legacy will you leave behind? Will you teach your children to accept and understand or to hate and place blame without education?

I'm just disgusted and fed up with most of the world. I still hold out hope for a better tomorrow because I'm an idealist, but it seems the flame within that seeks fairness grows smaller every day. Wake up people, we're killing each other and our planet. No we can't all "get along", but we CAN choose to take the high road. An eye for an eye really does leave us walking around blind in more ways than one.

workouts

I'm a big fan of shows like "Biggest Loser" and "Celebrity Fit Club". Usually reality TV is annoying and over dramatic, but these shows (especially the first) are great motivators for our nation. The U.S. has become more and more dependent on junk food, and our country has forgotten about health. There are many people who watch what they eat and exercise, but if you look around any time you go to a public place, you'll see that the majority doesn't take care of themselves.

I'm not a skinny girl, let's just get that out there. On the other hand I don't have rolls, and can definitely fit in one seat on an airplane. I like working out, but I get bored if I keep the same exercise routine all the time. I love Billy Blank's Tae Bo workouts, the elliptical at the YMCA, and going for long walks with a friend or a CD player. I love water, powerade option, and those FUZE drinks. My favorite snacks are carrots (not the bagged kind), celery with peanut butter, mixed nuts, and so on.

I think my biggest weakness with food is when I eat. My work schedule isn't 9-5, so my breakfast time doesn't start at 7 or 8 in the a.m. I also cant stand wheat bread or tofu or any of those "pseudo" foods. I work out mainly indoors now because the couple of walking buddies I had have moved out of the area or a little to far to come into town. I can't afford a gym membership right now, so my workout tapes are my exercise. Well, my boyfriend helps out in that department too, I guess. ;)

It's nice to have this blog because I am horrible at keeping journals on paper. I usually lose the notebook or just get so busy I forget to write in it. This way whenever I go online for something else, I can write my thoughts out here. I believe it's integral that we as humans have a way to vent, even if we can't all afford shrinks!

Black Friday

Today I participated for the first time in the craze of Black Friday. I was amazed that so many people not only wake up at 4 a.m. but also how crazy they treat each other. There were actual deaths today caused by shopping! What's wrong with our society when we stomp on each other for a life size barbie or some other toy?

R and I found deals on all kinds of things, but found that overall prices at most stores were not changed that much. It's funny how most of the things we wanted were items not on sale! I did happen to purchase two Disney movies (I'm a sucker for Disney) and I guess that was my highlight of the day.

Standing at Cabela's for over an hour in line proved excruciating. I was thinking I don't even have anything I like in this store except for some Columbia clothing! The day ended alright though, because my textbooks finally arrived in the mail.

My First B-day Alone

What a beautiful day it is outside...so much better than the previous years when Nov. 26th brings snow and cold.

I had four fillings put in today, so happy bday to me! At least that's over with and I can maybe eat something in a couple hours. I'm sure once the Novocaine wears off my jaw's going to hurt....maybe oatmeal then?

My boyfriend(from now on I'll call him R) works today, but no matter because this morning was birthday enough. My sister called to wish me happy bday, and then I was going to get a glass of water from the kitchen. R wouldn't let me leave the bedroom so I wondered what was up.

When I was no longer a hostage of the boudoir I emerged to find a cake on the kitchen table with rose petals all around. Then there was R with a single red rose and a kiss. That was the best way I've ever woken up on my bday.

Most people spend the holidays with family. I will for Christmas, but for today my friends are with their loved ones, and mine are far away. I think I'll take this opportunity to spend some time with myself doing whatever I feel like. Everyone should have a day to themselves now and then, so instead of feeling sorry for myself I'm going to celebrate me.

It's funny that we celebrate growing older and closer to dying. I guess it can also be a celebration that we made it one more year and are now the wiser...hopefully...

I wish everyone a happy turkey day, and a wonderful nap afterward.

Start at Random

Politically charged! *grabs fistfuls of hair* Why oh why do we live in a world where everyone's so informed but no one knows what's going on?

As a first post for blogging there's really no great philosophy and probably not even great spelling happening here. There's just me, a strawberry-banana smoothie (that took forever to make because of my older-than-ice-cubes blender), and a laptop that has no permanent home in my tiny apartment.

So this is Grand Forks. Heard of it? Oh well let me tell all! We have a hill (most people know it as a bridge) that is the only reason you can't see clear across town. We have trees (mostly planted) that shed the most beautiful sticky goo on your vehicle. We also have an overrated University, and the fun just goes on from there.

Most of you will say "quit whining and just move already". Ah, but if only. I'm a naturally happy person who just happened to get stuck in a town that increasingly proves my black hole theory on towns. Sometimes you get sucked in and for one reason after another you have to stay just one more year, and then one more year, and then...you get my point.

I'm not sure how or what to blog, but if you've read this far I'll just say I'm random, sometimes ranting, other times philosophical. Maybe writing down all my nonsense will clear space and stress from my cranium. Maybe I'll win the lottery I don't buy tickets for tomorrow and forget all about this posting. Maybe.

I work for a place that manufactures airplanes. We'll call it PlanesRus. This is where I have spent a good portion of my waking hours over the past year or so. This is where my IQ and sense of accomplishment have slowly been veering downhill over the past year or so.

OKay so I'm glad to have a job, money, and not work at a shoe factory in an underdeveloped country for two cents an hour...there's your gratitude alright? I still think everyone should have the right to complain or vent about their work. But with employers and the government learning how to use the web, I'll have to be careful what I write I suppose.

I like most of the people I work with. There are those who say I should like them all. Come on, really? really? If anyone says they like everyone they work with...they're lying...yep. All we can do is be civil and think "yeah you probably shouldn't be allowed to spread your genes on to the next generation, but hey I won't tell you what I think because I like being employed".

I basically work in high school. There's the same cliques at my job as there were in school. There's the girls who live for drama...you all know what "mean girls" are. There's the guys who goof off and make strange noises (mating calls!?) in the corner of their cave...not that they care of course anyone's watching ;P.....There's my group I guess who gets along with pretty much everyone else. Then there's a few people who are just generally miserable and hate everything fun and good. So lets see, we have:
  • mean witches
  • clowns
  • scary angry kids
  • the rest of the population

....yep that about sounds like h.s. right? But the trick to being happy is finding it wherever you are, so I am determined to make the best of it.

Well, it's off to bed with me...if you'd like to tune in again I'm sure I'll have more to say.
